Wallet host for external crypto withdrawals

When withdrawing cryptocurrency to an external wallet, you must specify the wallet host you are sending funds to. This ensures the transaction is processed correctly and that required compliance checks are completed before the withdrawal is finalized.

What is a wallet host?

A wallet host refers to how the recipient’s wallet is managed — either by a third-party provider (such as an exchange or financial institution) or directly by the recipient.

Selecting the correct wallet host type enables Safe2transact to perform the required Travel Rule and compliance checks prior to completing the transaction.

Available wallet host options

When initiating an external crypto withdrawal, you must select one of the following options:

Other host

Select Other host when the recipient’s wallet is managed by a third-party provider, such as:

  • A cryptocurrency exchange;
  • A custodial wallet provider;
  • A financial institution;
  • Any other platform that holds funds on behalf of the recipient.

This option applies to all custodial services not operated by the recipient directly.

Select Self-hosted wallet when the recipient controls their wallet directly and no third-party provider holds the funds.

Examples include:

  • Hardware wallets (e.g., Ledger, Trezor);
  • Mobile wallets (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet);
  • Desktop wallets;
  • Any non-custodial wallet address controlled solely by the recipient.

For self-hosted wallets, additional verification may be required to meet regulatory and compliance obligations.
